Child Obesity – “Ultimate” Cure

Good morning, or good evening, depending where in the world you may be. If you have read any of my articles you may realise by now that my writing style is more akin to those writers who tell it like it is, no fluffy bits, no fat, pardon the pun and especially NO BS.

Sorry to be so blunt but it is true there is enough BS in the world today and at least Barrack Obama the President of the USA is taking a more poignant stance by telling it like it is because deep down he firmly believes that the people of America, and the people of the world, have waited long enough for a no-nonsense approach where BS is a thing of the past.

Of course time will tell if what is said today is the outcome of tomorrow!! But rest assured Barrack Obama has started by taking positive action and will continue in a manner to which the people of America will come to respect and admire.

So what is the bearing of the above have to do with my child’s overweight condition?

Just to lay the foundation I would like to confirm the following important points;

·        You are an intelligent person

·        Good at what you do, in fact you are probably very good at your work and know how to enjoy yourself to the full, Excellent!

·        A loving parent

·        A giving person who is selfless and a proud home owner whether you’re in rented or mortgaged accommodation, the fact remains the same you love having a home to care for and enjoy.

Now let’s reflect on your teenage children…

·        They see Mon and Dad as a bank… pay for this, pay for that

·        They see the home as a place to hang out, sleepovers etc.

·        They see the kitchen/larder as a free deli… always stocked!

·        They see the home as a place to slob around, do nothing, watch videos and play games hour after hour after hour.

Now I’m sure your saying to yourself that my child is none of the above and I am  happy for you that that is the case as most of the children/teenagers today do look at the home as one or more of the above.

Let’s assume for one moment that your kids do have one or more of the above conditions and let’s assume that your kids love you to bits and would do anything for you, which is great!

Now let’s assume for one moment that you decide to raise a subject over supper, assuming that the whole family eats together around the table…good now going back to the task at hand, yes you are intending to raise a subject at supper that you firmly believe will have a profound impact on the family as a whole and on your kids individually.

You start the conversation; being a tactician that you are and after rehearsing your pitch over and over again days ahead of supper to make sure you have covered all the base points to bring in your mind a happy conclusion, you open the conversation with your eldest, “Honey, how was school today? What did you have for lunch?” By this time your eldest now suspects something is up and mutters something that sounds like a foreign language.

Anyway you move on even though the conversation at this time is terribly one sided and not going to plan but you persist and keep your tone light hearted and flexible, several minutes go past that seem like an eternity and finally you decide that enough is enough and you almost shout it out “Let’s go for a walk on Sunday after lunch. ” There you have done it told it like it is and after a few moments of hesitation at the table everyone agrees to your good idea.

So you see, your preparation and anxiety has paid off by “Telling It Like It Is” now all you need to do is follow through, make the walk enjoyable by bringing a tennis ball to throw and tennis racket and you have the beginning of what will over time flourish into fun times together where the whole family bonds, you gain more respect and your kids get much needed exercise.

The “Ultimate Cure” is YOU. As you have what it takes to bring about change in your life and the lives of your kids?

Be patient, yes I know you are saying that it will be difficult one, but hey, if it was so easy we would all look like Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolly!!

Question by r55s33: Pros and cons to allowing convicted felons in military?
Need to hear if allowing prisoners to fight in the war in Iraq instead of drafting our young men and women and forcing them to fight. After a pre-dertimined time fighting they would be allowed to return to USA as pardoned individuals.

they cant because they have homosexual sex in prison. So they are not allowed in the military.

  • mom of twins:

In theory sounds like a good idea but in reality, they are criminals and do you really think that they will do the right thing??? Especially when given weapons, I doubt it.

  • PoliticallyIncorrect:

Not a bad idea, but we partner one convict with one Liberal Draftee….They would have a common bond

  • L. B.:

    Moral Character. Cons lack it.

  • The Gimp:

Ummm, I don’t know if I would want convicted felons having access to the weapons the military uses. I would say yes if you use them as bait…….good luck.

  • Frann B:

No cons…they were dumb enough to get caught and you want to give them arms training..we need the draft. It is the only way to stop the war..

  • jc2006:

many of the men and women that are in jail are there for socioeconomic differences that have influenced life decisions or the reasons why they might be in jail. Its very similar to sending black men to fight the losing battles in past wars, for example the civil war when slaves were offered freedom if they faught in the war. Due to the social injustice in this country I think it would be absolutely wrong.

They should all be put in the military and on the front lines,Who cares?

A REAL Lady with a heart as big as the Smokies, December 13, 1999
Laurie Anne Paul (Great Smokies, TN, USA) –

I moved here to Pigeon Forge, TN about five years ago. I live five minutes from DollyWood, and Dolly is everywhere here. Her book gave me a chance to find out just why this woman is so beloved in this area. She grew up with no money, in a cash poor rural area, and has never lost sight of her roots. She talks about being a teenager, never being able to get her hair big enough or “yaller” enough, and about dreaming of stardom. I’ve had the pleasure of attending a live concert, held in her suprisingly intimate Celebrity Theatre at Dollywood, and the woman speaking so candidly in her book, is the same girl giggling and having fun onstage. When I finished it, I just wanted to hug her and tell her that she’s done good. She’s done amazing things in her hometown, and they appreciate her.

Interesting sidenote, there’s a statue of Dolly in the yard outside the courthouse here in Sevier County. Not glamourous,or fancy, it portrays a pretty country girl, in her jeans and man’s shirt, playing a guitar and singing. Best picture of Miss Dolly I ever saw:)

A Real Life Country Song, November 7, 2003
Steven Fantina (Phillipsburg, NJ USA) –

Five minutes of fame has now become enough to justify penning one’s self-serving autobiography. Fortunately, Dolly Parton’s 30+year career is suitable for book-length, and she avoids the standard celebrity tell-all fare in favor of interesting vignettes.

Her life is a Cinderella-story that would put any fairy-godmother to shame. Her interesting existence commenced with a delivery paid via a pig since her farming parents were short on cash. From such humble beginnings she went to become one of the richest women in the world. Tantalizing tidbits about her fellow country singers and some Hollywood hotshots pepper the pages, as do tales that illumine life amidst a large Appalachian family. She has often described her brood as “only financially poor” and that positive attitude not only permeates the book, she portrays such a blessed childhood that the allegation rings completely true.

Thankfully avoiding the gory details of typical star bios (think Cybil Shepherd Whoopi Goldberg, etc.), Dolly realizes there are some facts that fans need not know. Her boasted Christianity is practiced with a few question marks, and some facets of her life do appear curious. Still she succeeds in presenting just enough (but never too much) of the private side of her ultra-public persona.

Readers see how she has lived out many of the lyrics of her enumerable self-penned country songs. Upon completion of this autobiography many will return it to their bookshelves softly singing “In My Tennessee Mountain Home.”
