Email Marketing for Sandwich Shops

“The sandwich shop.” Talk about three words that embody fond memories of long-ago, small-town days. Who doesn’t recall Mom and Dad heading out on a Saturday morning and returning with lunchtime sandwiches (or, depending on regional terminology: heroes, subs and grinders) for the entire family? The store manager seemed to know everybody in town–and more importantly, the preferences of everybody in town. After a visit or two, Mom and Dad no longer had to request certain condiments or modifications to sandwiches. The manager already knew them!

Like everything else in America, the sandwich shop has undergone drastic changes over the last few decades and, to some degree, has turned corporate. Now many people rely on Subway or Quiznos: each of which have–pardon the pun–taken a big bite out of the business of local sandwich merchants. The presence of the giant chains makes it even more imperative that family-owned shops let the locals know what they offer–much more than just a sandwich these days–and that the quality and price is not only comparable to the big boys but better.

How does a shop tap into that audience and keep it, though, with a minimal advertising budget? The answer is a sandwich shop’s email marketing campaign! Email marketing of sandwich shops requires neither a lot of money nor a lot of time and computer expertise, which allows those behind the counter to connect with the community while still focusing most of their efforts on the products that keep people coming back for more.

The local sandwich shop faces a longer and more uphill path to success now than a generation or two ago, but people are eager for the human touch and to find a nearby “Mom and Pop” joint that makes sandwiches better than any chain ever could.
