In The Region Of Murcia

Article by Abel Satiku

Murcia is an Autonomous Province in Spain. It is easily found on any map since it boarders on Alicante along the Costa Blanca. The province passes through Torrevieja on the south. In the region of Murcia you will be surprised at the beautiful scenery that is the salt swamps at the destination of San Pedro del Pinatar. The province has a city that is the same name. You’ll enjoy the sea or lagoon named Mar Menor (or small sea). It is separated from the Mediterranean by a sandy stretch of land called Manga.

From the air, the stretch of sand looks like a coat sleeve (literal translation of the word Manga). The sleeve then curves around a peak where you’ll find the important city of Cartagena. On the way out of this province, you’ll get a fantastic beach resort region named Aguilas. This region of Spain offers the holidaymaker very hot summers. Temperature on many summertime days will exceed 40º. By contrast, the winters are mild and short. Murcia is an arid land growing abundant vegetables and legumes in the varied landscape. .

It’s your choice of numerous quick flights that land in the San Javier airport that is about a 30-minute drive to the city of Murcia. You’ll discover another drawing card in nearby Manga in the Mar menor. An alternate is landing at the Alicante airport, which is a forty-minute drive to Murcia. In either case, you’ll enjoy a clean, and luxurious hotel. After a rest from your flight, try soaking up some of the local architecture and culture.

For example, historic attractions from the 14th through the 18th century at Murcia, Cathedral Church of Saint Mary where the Spanish name is Iglesia Catedral de Santa Maria offers the visitor has at least five different architectural styles. You’ll find Baroque at the door of Pardon. You’ll discover the Gothic Chapel of Velez. The Renaissance style Chapel offers the visitor a 96m high emblematic bell tower peeling out 25 bells in concert. Later on following a sumptuous dinner, enjoy the nightlife.

Within the Sanctuary of Fuensanta found outside this city, is its patron saint. This slender Saint is carried in procession from the home in the sanctuary to the cathedral during Easter celebrations. Summer festivals are a musical feast.

Travelers come from across the world for two huge celebrations in the city of Murcia each year. Visit Murcia during Easter week and witness the processions and the Easter Sunday celebrations. Then there are spring festivals in this beautiful city. During the summertime there seems to be a never ending annual series of music festivals. It doesn’t matter whether you visit Murcia or Torrevieja, if you do miss these you’ll know the better time to attend next year.
